So far so good, emc linux has been easy as pie to setup. Need to really nail down the gear ratios and pitch of the screws, but even eyeballing them seems to spit out a something that looks half decent.
Still A LOT of work to do, leveling, cleaning up wiring, etc etc

Yes, I'd give it a thumbs up. Keep in mind I've only written a couple g-code programs and only really run the "emc linux" logo, but its pretty intuitive so far.
I'm probably a bit more linux savvy than the normal joe-schmo.... that said, the emc-ubuntu distribution makes getting up and running almost trivial.

try downloading it and running the program, you don't even need hardware to run axis and get familiar with the interface.

Also, I haven't configured any inputs back to linux, like touch probes, stops, etc. cant imagine it wil be that hard.

worst case you waste a couple days... after all it is free

It is a Ryobi 1/4" shank straight router bit ... It was basically the only one I had with reach I think it was $5 or 7 bucks at HD or lowes.
