    Code editor

Anyone have any experience with a free code editor that will check code for syntax errors? I have been using G-Wizard Editor from CNC Cookbook, and it is outstanding. It checks and advises how to fix code problems, but I just can't justify the expense of an annual subscription for what little machining I do. Most everything I do right now is simple enough that I can use the Mach 3 teach mode to get stuff done, but sometimes I need something a little more complicated. MeshCam doesn't always turn out Mach 3 ready code, so I have used GWE to check and correct it. Now that my subscription has run out, I am looking for something similar that is free, or at least inexpensive.

    Any advice out there?

Sounds like you really just need a better post!

HSMworks comes with a free post editor and is free to download.

You might also look into cncwrapper. Not only is it cheap and give you the ability to wrap gcode around an axis, but it has a built in gcode editor.

I'm not usre if either of those will help fix errors, but i think they will both identify non-standard code.

Notepad++ is a customizable text editor. There is a plug in for Notepad++ that does g-code. What it does is syntax color coding of the G-code file.

Don't know if you found one yet, but I found the one in the link below and it appears to do an excellent job. I have only just tried it briefly though. And it's free.

That one shows some promise, but is currently kinda buggy. On my G-code, it shows the execution time of a 5 minute program as one second. It also seems to only understand metric - there doesn't seem to be an option to set Imperial units and it seems to ignore G20/G21.
