I bought one of these Chinese 40W lasers from eaby: High Precise 40W CO2 Laser Engraving Cutting Machine ENGRAVER Cutter USB Port | eBay

After mirror adjustment the thing seems to work fine, but the X axis gantry seems to sit at less than 90-degree angle to the Y rails. The angles in the photo are not parallax--the left side of the gantry is in fact closer to the bottom of X travel. The second image is a scan of a vector cut that was supposed to be a rectangle. Red lines are an actual rectangle superimposed on the scan.

Any recommendations on how to fix this?

I have the same laser and problem. You need to adjust the right side belt so it matches the left side. Near the front is a cover plate for the y axis stepper motor. Remove the two screws and plate. Right side is the stepper motor and coupler that attaches the pulleys together. Loosen the screws for the coupler so you can move the right side belt so it is square with the X axis. Mine was off by about 3 tooth belt distance.

there is a coupler under the inspection panel at the front of the x y table. You can remove the two screws and there is a small coupler on one side of the y axis stepper armature, losen one side and you can adjust the timing of the left and right sides.
