Just curious, I have a 1985 boss 5 with a mach 3 retro, original steppers. I run my rapid (g0) speed at 50 ipm. I am curious what rapid speed others are running on a similar machine.

didn't it originally do at least 100?
I've only jogged around with mine so far playing and getting things setup but I've seen it do 200+ jogging. That is screeming fast to me seeing I only have my round pole conversion set to ~50 fast. My router mill does 400/200 fast depending on he axis..
but to see a 40 some " table move that quick looks real fast..hehe
I think with the gecko conversion you would have to limit your top speed to what ever breaking speeds your gecko's could handle (slowing down that much weight) with out breaking any of the electronics inside. Not sure if a break resistor would be needed or a good idea. If I ever convert mine to gecko control it's something I'd have to look into and know others have talked about it.
no idea how that would be calculated though.
b.
It won't seem fast soon.
Watch my big machine run at 2750ipm and everything else is just pokey
Truthfully, accel and decel are where real speed can be found. If you can get the ramps to run fast, you will see real throughput increase
The trick is to be able to feed work to a fast machine that fast..hehe

I'm running mine at 2010mm/min (80ipm). Boss 6.1, metric machine, original drives and steppers running off Mach3 so not sure if it's comparable.
dunno how you guys stay awake waiting for your machine to be done......
