    Re: Hoss's G0704

Hoss, glad to see you post, because I am lost.

I had been using your probing screen set, but had to change computers for my X2 setup. When I reinstalled Mach3, I still had all the zip files from installing your screen sets, but ran into a problem.

I had an installation problem the first time I set it up, but found your easy, clear directions in a forum thread. Now I can't find that thread and can't get the screen set to load all the buttons and bitmaps.

Can you point me to the thread where you talked about installing the screen sets? I saw your video, a couple times, but it didn't seem to do the trick.

Appreciate your help and all you do for us here.

nvm, figured it out all by myself!

Just getting around to the Hoss Phase 2 C7 ball screw conversion and would like to know the difference between the "angled" Y axis ball nut mount and the "regular" Y axis mount ( non-Angled ) ?

Happy Turkey day to all !

    Re: Hoss's G0704

The "angled" one positions the oil port at the top which is beneficial for use with an oiling system otherwise the normal one keeps the ballnut in it's common position with the port at the side.

Hoss, I am so glad to see that you are still doling out free advice on CNC builds. Whenever I find myself in a build bind I just mutter out "WWHD?". Have a happy Thanksgiving!

    Hey Hoss, quick question...

I purchased the VBX bearings listed on your website (7007B and 7005B)

I am trying to figure out which way these things are supposed to be installed. Was watching your video on bearing replacement, but the bearings in the video are slightly different, so I don't want to make any mistakes.

Do you have any info on which way these are to be installed?

You'll notice the outer race on one side of the bearing is thicker than the other side.
They install so they face each other when installed.
The thicker side faces up on the lower bearing and the thicker side faces down on the upper bearing.

    Re: Hoss's G0704

    Hello Hoss,

Glad to see you're still around. The thread has been too quiet lately.

There is a big Enco sale ending at 11 PM Eastern tonight (just over 90 minutes from now). 25% off everything AND Free UPS Ground shipping. No minimums.

I have two different sets of codes. One set is "SPECIAL" and "OFFER" and excludes machinery. The other is "CYBER" and "MONDAY" and has no exclusions. The first code is for the 25% off and the second is for the free UPS shipping.

So there are a bunch of goodies I've had my eye on, but I realized that I have very few quality end mills. What size and type of end mill would you recommend stocking up on for one of the smaller Novakon CNC mills (just a tad bigger than the Tormach 770)? I also have a G0704. The only end mills I currently have are the ubiquitous set of 20 yellow end mills (10 different sizes in both two and four flute) from China, and a couple of long reach carbide tools used for 80% lowers.

    Thanks!

    Re: Hoss's G0704

I always have a good supply of 1/4 and 3/8 2fl endmills on hand for most machining, Hertel is a good brand.

    Hoss,

Thanks for the reply. Are you using the 2 flute for both aluminum and steel?

I see Encol has Hertel HSS double end mills and M-42 cobalt ball end mills in the Hot Deals catalog.

That's good coupon code. I put one of their Enco brand Mills in the cart Item Model #405-0593, and price went from $2355 to $1766. However, I already decided on a G0704, so I'll probably let it go. Seems like a good deal, I just am not familiar with their products.

Hoss, thanks for the cutter advice. I ended up getting two each of a Hertel 1/4" HSS double-ended and a Hertel 3/8" HSS double-ended end mill. Cost was $7.46 +tax delivered for each end mill.

The Enco sale was extended until 8 PM Eastern tonight, so there is 3-1/4 hours to take advantage.

    Mach3 Minimum Requirements:

32-bit Desktop (using the parallel port)

32-bit version of Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 Operating System (64-bit will not work)
    1Ghz CPU
    512MB RAM
Non-integrated Video Card with 32MB RAM
Basic Computer Skills (ability to copy/rename files, browse directories, etc)

Laptop / 64-bit Desktop (using an external motion controller)

An appropriate external motion controller (options can be found on the Plugins page)
Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 Operating System
    1Ghz CPU
    512MB RAM
Basic Computer Skills (ability to copy/rename files, browse directories, etc)

Best to get a desktop that comes with a parallel port already, I'd get a 2Ghz which are pretty cheap these days.
    Check pricewatch.com.

Want to apass on I found a good resource for older desktop computers - Goodwill. The guy at Goodwill told me they wipe the hard drive of all donor machines and do a clean install of Windows 7 Pro. The install is through some partnership with Dell. I purchased a Pentium Dual Core PC, with 2 GB ram and 160 GB harddrive (no monitor, I already had one) for $70. It runs real well. Has a Windows 7 rescue disc included.

    Questions:
    1. Once I get Mach 3 installed, how often will I need internet - I have no internet in the shop.
    2. Is there any other reason anyone can think of as to why I'd need internet to run Mach 3.

    Re: Hoss's G0704

You won't need internet at all to run Mach 3, many purposely keep their Mach 3 pc disconnected from the internet since it has caused some problems, never bothered my machine though.

    Re: Hoss's G0704

I purchased the Kit from Automation Technologies that included items listed below. I assume the 5V power supply is to run the Breakout board?? If so, I'm confused as the power supply is a 'plug', but the area on the breakout board appears to just accept bare wires............Am I missing something??

    NEMA23 4-Axis CNC Kit with KL-5056 Bipolar Driver, 48V/12.5A Power Supply (110V/220VAC)
    (4) 570 oz-in stepping motors, NEMA23, KL23H2100-50-4B (3/8” Dual shaft with a flat)
    (4) KL-5056D Digital Stepper Drivers (5.6Amp 24-50 Volts, 1-1/256 microstep driver)
    (1) KL-600-48: 48VDC /12 .5A Power Supply 110VAC/220VAC ( Black one)
    (1) C10 Breakout board ( You can wire E-Stop, limit Switch, etc)
    (1) 5V power supply

    Re: Hoss's G0704

Cut and strip the wires to attach to the breakout board.
I always tin the end of my wires too.

Hoss, what is your opinion of using limit switches for homing? I'm defiantly going to install some for use as limit switches. I was looking at these and these on fleabay.

Am surprised you need a double female parallel cable to connect computer to breakout board. Those are a little difficult to find these days.
