    NM200 V2 intermittent stoppages

    hi all,
I am one of the unfortunates to have problems with my NM200 V2 mill. I am experiencing intermittent shut downs while machining. Two have been where the spindle and all axis just stop mid program. Fortunately I was machining foam at the time. I had to completely shut down machine and restart computer to reset the machine. I reinstalled Mach 3 version 3.043.022 and now have experienced two inadvertent estops. The e-stops are easier to recover from, the axis still have power but aggravating none the less. After the first e-stop fault a message of "driver watchdog triggered". The machine was only moving at 10in/min, so it was not being overtaxed at time of fault.

I have run Mach 3 on two smaller machines for days at time and never experienced the sudden stops like the NM200.

Another annoying thing is if I turn the coolant pump off/on while the machine is running with the keyboard button the pc screen goes black for few seconds, then comes back on.

Anyone have experience with this? Any suggestions would be helpful.

    Thanks,
    Bob

Do you have any idea what's triggering the estops?
it's possible that the there is noise on the lines to the limit switches, in which case increasing the debounce setting in mach may address it.

Hi Thanks for the reply. I have no idea what is triggering the E-stops. I will submit the same inquiry on the MAch forum. The machine has limit switches but I don't use them at the moment for homing, etc. I didn't think the table was in proximity of the switches at time, but it could have been. I will look into the debounce setting. What would I adjust the setting to?
    Thanks,B

Honestly I'd try and Isolate where the EStop is coming from, assuming it can be reproduced reasonably easily, I'd start by disabling all the none essential functionality, limit switches etc in the ports and pins settings. Then turning them back on until it reproduces.

You needn't be anywhere near the switches if the wires are picking up noise they can send false signals and mach will respond as if the switches have triggered.

If it is noise, it could be from anything, your down to tracing wiring, and verifying everything is as clean as it could be. If a low debounce value fixes it that's also an acceptable solution.

As for debounce you want to set it to as low a value as possible that still prevents the issue.

Have experienced this intermittently, unfortunately no suggestions.

    2. Another annoying thing is if I turn the coolant pump off/on while the machine is running with the keyboard button the pc screen goes black for few seconds, then comes back on.

Was able to cure this issue by plugging the monitor into a seperate power source (not the mill). Believe the draw from the pump momentarily causes a surge which affects the monitor.

    3. After the first e-stop fault a message of "driver watchdog triggered".
Also experienced this error for no apparent reason. If watch dog is active, certain activities will trigger it. Apparently these errors are not significant and solely a PITA.

Display the general config setup & make sure the "Use Watch Dog" field is UN checked. see attached .png.

    Good Luck
    John
