Talking Newbie question: illustrator dxf to DCAD

Hi I just start to use this software few days ago mainly as hobby to cut metals into some complex shapes.
I am an illustrator-like vector software user (on mac) and not a cad user (win).

Problems I had was theres no lines were detected on my dxf as I imported in DCAD. And it appears two images of my vectorized object (one is the real one and one is reflected)
What I did for my object:
Live trace > Expand > some welding to become one linked object > export R13

I tried to save each for the options to, but unfortunately nothing happens/blank.
I also tried only strokes without solid and failed.

So I would like to know what is the best conversion in illustrator, best option to export as dxf, and importing options in DCAD so that i can do the paths for wire edm.

The problem is that the DXF files contains NURBS curves, we cannot import them into PartMaster.

Do you have the option to export the DXF file as R12 ?

Can you attach the orignal Illustrator file please.

Just joined the site for almost an identical reason I too have tried live tracing parts in Illustrator and saving as a dxf and get no image or lines etc message when importing into our laser cad software.

Have managed to get it to work so look forward to hearing any replies on this subject, sorry not trying to hijack your post T1T4

Just looked at AI - no R12 export option.

I used DraftSight - it's free, to import the DXfFand save as DXF R12.

It imported into PartMaster CAdDwhere I created the Contour, then into EDM to produce the program.

    Files attached.

I too used draftsight to make my drawings visible in my laser cad software but the final results where too messy to work with.

Im really struggling to get a working file out of Illustrator let alone a working tidy file that can then be put onto the laser cutting machine and cut out of stainless steel.

Attached is the R6 logo file im trying to get into a DXF file with tidy lines.

Guess its all a learning curve and im only starting out also.

Glad to see your getting somewhere with yours Andre good stuff

Thank you Andre for the prompt reply.

Yes, there was no R12 option as in attachment screenshot.
I heard the newer types cause problems. Is DCAD only compatible with R12 files?

I will try to do the same thing on a new design with DraftSight.
Thanks a lot for the reference!

    You made my day
