    Mitutoyo digital indicator interfacing

    Hi,

I recently picked up a 0.001mm accuracy mitutoyo dial indicator from ebay, but it is one of the earlier models that doesnt include min/max readings. Code # is 543-180, and its labelled as IDC-112ME.

It has a six pin socket on the top, which i assume is a digital output for connecting an external display. Does anyone know what the pinout to this is? or how its used? Any ideas where i can get plugs to fit the socket used?

Ideally i would like to put together a pic to display the range of readings, so i can measure runout with it, or hook it to my pc.

Thanks for the info, this is for the model after mine with the 8 pin interface, and mine has a small 6 pin connector, but i think i will try and scrounge a newer dial.

I checked the pins on mine with a scope, and coulnt find a signal on any of the pins, or even a pin with ground continuity, so maybe the socket is not connected internally.

The signals are open collector, so without a pullup you won't see anything

Did you check for continuity with the battery negative? I don't think the electronics are grounded to the frame of the instrument.

ah, i assumed there would be an internal pullup. I was doing all my tests with a scope probe by hand, as i dont have a plug for the socket, and i dont know where to find one. Its a 6 pin round socket, with 2 rows of 3 pins.

I have just taken the back off to have a look, and the socket is connected, but i dont really want to dismantle it any further, and the electronics are under the mechanism.

When i get into work on monday i will do some more tests with pullups attached, and recheck the pins for a gnd signal. Initially i tested against the casing, and found no continuity on any pins, i will do the tests again wrt the battery terminals.

    Thanks for the tips
