    autocad installation ?

    Hello:
I'am trying to install autcad 2000 on my computer and I get a message that says 16 bit window susystem and in the box is" c:\windows\syste32\autoexec.nt. not suitable for running ms-doss and microsoft windows apllications"
The book said I should have at least 50mb of space in my system folder, if this is the problem how do I get to my system folder and can it be upgraded.
    Could it be something else?
    Thanks for any respnse

    Howdy,

I had a similar problem when I upgraded from windows 98 (fat file system) to windows 2000 (nt file system). Back when autocad 2000 was put out they offered it for 2 windows platforms (fat or nt file systems), your copy could be for the fat file system and not nt. IIRC, Xp is based on the nt system.

In windows 2000 there was a way of telling the system to run the program in win98 mode. I'm not sure if xp can do that or not.

    Good Luck,
    Jack

There's only one version, and it doesn't matter what file system you're using. Does this error occur during the install? I recently installed Acad2000 on a new PC with XP Pro with no problems. A 16 bit error is usually from a very old program.

If they didn't port the program out in two different versions..... then, I don't know why I had to install it on win2000 in the win98 mode. I was even told how to do it in a newsgroup many years ago. Honest!

The error occurs doing installation. My computer was bought new in 2002(DELL).
Is there anyway to change this or upgrade? Could my antivirus protection or spam protection keep it from installing?
    thanks

certain anti virus applications interfere with install

disable av product and uninstall autocad reinstall.

if not solved check auto desk support pages for the complete unistall procedures it involves editing the regestry. I can't remember if they made 32 bit version with 2000

I got it fixed Sunday,I had to put my windows cd in,go to start, click run, type in c:\ windows \repair then click ok. Right click autoexec.nt,copy.
Click start, then click run type in %window%\system32 then click ok.
In the system32 folder press ctrl+v to paste autoexe file to this folder.
    autocad 2000 loaded .
