Question Surface Treatment for precision surface steel parts

Hello everyone, i hope this is the right sub.
I am on the brink of building a small massive cnc router for metal.
I let it cnc and surface grind in annealed 45 steel (yes, in china).
one of those milled plates will be the machine bed and some other parts will be mounting surfaces for linear rails.
Now my question is. How should i do the surface treatment? my manufacturer recommends hard chrome plating.
I am not sure if its still perfect level then?
    What can this forum recommend?
Should i maybe let it hard chrome plate first and then surface grind precision surfaces again? Like the machine bed and linear rail mountings? Or should i use another surface treatment?
I dont want the frame to rust with time. Thanks everyone!

It is better to chrome Plate the entire part, and surface grind the critical surfaces.

Hi Kev - Hard chrome is expensive. If you want to prevent rust then normal zinc plating is Ok. Then have the lands ground to spec and oil those only. Commercial machine builders do not chrome their beds. As you will be using coolant it will get everywhere and protect the surfaces... Peter

This is probably how i will do it. and i will redesign the parts so mounting surfaces are higher than the rest, so its easier to grind the right surfaces.
