Hi
I have a 220 volt single phase 1.5KW vfd running a 3 phase 2 hp motor. My question on buying a input filter (emi/rf). What amperage should I use??? A 10amp should be ok??

If I was just fitting one, I would fit it to the motor side, the VFD manufactures and some transformer suppliers make them, 3 phase chokes.

Hi Al
So don't use a input filter at all? I was going to choke and twist the wires on the ouput and put a emi/rf filter on the input.
So I am really confused.
Maybe I will start at the beginning. What kind of filter (input, output or both) should I use. This is going on a cnc milling machine conversion.

Page 13 of this shows all the options of suppression, http://www.ctiautomation.net/PDF/Hit...VFD-Drives.pdf it all depends on what you are aiming for, For the VFD's I have used, the majority I have never used any suppression, in a couple of cases I did use 3 phase choke on the input and output.
The choke between the VFD & motor is considered more for reducing stress on the motor and VFD.
