    Going to Try Again...With a Joe's 2006

Well...I'm going to try it again...

It's been a while since I've been around here, I built a machine a little over a year ago with some very generous input from these forums. We moved houses a few months ago and my old machine got damaged beyond repair.

I figure this is a great opportunity to upgrade my machine, the old one barely got by and was temperamental on a good day.

I'm working on the "Pre-Build" phase right now and plan to actually start construction within the next few weeks. I did have a few questions I was hoping some of you could answer.

    1. I can't seem to find a source to download the R2 files. I downloaded the R1 e-drawings from Joe's thread. This is great for an overview but I'd love to get the .dwg files or even some .dxf files if I can. The links in Joe's thread for the .dwg files is broken and I can't download them. Anyone have a good source of them for the R2?

    2. I'm going to be attempting this without the aid of any CNC. I've got a decently stocked shop and will be using templates with my router for most of the work. Does anyone that's used this method have an tips/tricks or things they wished they'd done differently? I've read some of the threads of people that built the machine manually, I'm just curious if there are any more of you out there with some imput.

    3. I was reading the "Sophomore Build" thread and noticed that the two guys had a VERY nice detailed set of plans. Have those plans ever circulated around on here? I noticed Joe had asked them about sharing them, but never found anything in the thread about whether they did or not.

A Thank You in advance to everyone here and I look forward to having an excellent build thread!

Thanks Gerry, that's exactly what I was looking for.

Question though, is it me or does this machine have some odd dimensions. The measurements don't seem to be adding up very nicely. i.e. rather than .5 inches, I'm dimensioning them and getting 0.47. Is this right or am I off?

Yesterday I went out and salvaged everything off my old machine that could be useful in my new build. I got a few good sized chunks of MDF that are in great shape, some Aluminum angle, and all the electronics.

I've got the HobbyCNC 3 Axis board with the Keling KL23H286-20-8B motors. I guess this part still confuses me a bit. I was using 2 computer power supplies to power my old machine, and I'd rather have a dedicated power supply for this one. I can build a power supply for it, but I'm not sure on the specs that I want for this driver and motors.

The datasheet for the motors can be found here.

Does anyone have any input about what specs I need for my Power supply and suggestions regarding unipolar/bipolar setup?
