    Fanuc 0i Mate-MB battery/batteries

I have a Sharp SV2412 with the Fanuc 0i Mate-MB control. I know where the backup battery is on the control unit (A98L-0031-0012). Are there any other batteries I should change? I'm new to Fanuc and don't want to lose any data or parameters.

    Thanks,

6V APC battery, somewhere in your electrical cabinet.

I still can't find the 6v battery. Here are pictures of the drive section if that helps. I can look into the drive from vents on the bottom but I don't see any battery.

Trace the CXA2A cable this will lead you to the optional external battery pack
or CX5X to the Fanuc ABS Battery

The Beta i drives generaly have a battery cover attached to the two holes you can see in your photo

so it probably has the external grey box on the outside of the machine with FANUC written on it.

Nothing is connected to CX5X except for a small brown plastic part. It's only function is to keep the two pins from shorting to each other. I don't have a CXA2A. I do have a CXA2C though. CXA2C has blue wires running into the cable trays.

Is your machine an absolute encoder type or incremental type

post the values in parameter 1815

your machine might not have the 6V lithium ABS battery backup only the 3V Lithium Parameter/Memory backup

check 1815 bit 5 for apc...

also do you need to do a zero return before running machine...

    Parameter 1815 shows all zeros.

    Yes, I must home X, Y and Z at every power-up.

ok so there is no battery.. these are incremental encoders..

    Does it matter?

Do not change batteries while the machine is running. It will cause your program to stop.

I have the same machine and control Sharp 2412 fanuc oi mate mb .
I have batteries for my absolute enocoders but I have to home my machine
at start up . Why not one or the other ?

Sometimes the drives are sold with the batteries although your machine might not have absolute encoders. You should check parameters 1815 bit 4 and 5 to see if the machine really has absolute encoders.

It has absolute encoders for sure. I had to take the z axis motor off so the machine would fit under the garage door. But it back on and homed the machine z was in the wrong place would not home.

It took the service guy a day to figure it out. He did the Z zero home .
I have to home the machine but it has absolute encoders .All so I have changed the 6 volt batteries twice sence I had the machine when I get the alarm.
So why do I have to home a machine with absolute encoders?

    Service guy did this

    Zero return Z
If machine Zero return works change 1320 back to 2000
If it does not work change parameter 1850 to 1000 and try again if necessary change in 1000 increments up 5000.
If this does not work change to -1000 in one thousand increments.
If parameter 1850 is changed, the tool change position must be set using the following procedure:
With head at home position set machine position to 0 Use the MPG to move the head down approximately 4.00”
Unplug the air supply and manually move the carousel in to check the alignment.
Adjust the head using the MPG so the fingers align with the tool.
Multiply the machine position X 25400, insert this number in parameter 1241.
NOTE: After each change of parameter 1850 turn off the machine and re-start.
Machine with Pulse coder Change parameter 1815 bit 4 to 0 (APZ)
Line up index marks (Located on the side of the head)
    Turn off power
Turn on power and change parameter 1815 bit 4 back to 1
    Turn off power
Turn on power. (Zero return should work)

Sounds like the Z-Axis 'jumped a grid' this happens when the Z-Axis Home position is too close to the Encoder Marker Pulse.

Also This only really happens if the Z-Axis motor was not refitted in the same position. The service engineer should have made sure to mark the couplings and the ball screw before dis-assembly.

I would reset your home position with a similar but more precise procedure.

Please post your parameter 1815 this will clear up all confusion.

.All so I have changed the 6 volt batteries twice sence I had the machine when I get the alarm.
If you have changed the ABS batteries before you should know where to find them !

It was I, rbcmetalwork, who could not find the battery, not timlkallam.

    You should check parameter 1815.
Also check parameter 1005 bit 0 = A command is issued in automatic operation before a return to reference position has been performed since the power was turned on, an alarm is generated (0) / alarm is not generated (1)
