    Post Processor editing

    Post Processor
where can i learn about editing the PP so i can have the output i want?

I don't have a perfect answer how I learned editing posts, but first make a copy of your original then start looking through it.

The "Debug" feature in Mastercam helps. It will post your code, then let you step through your posting process, it helps correlate what the NCI spits out and how the Post interprets and what it will generate for code.

Someone else may have a better suggestion.

MasterCam has a post editing manual you can ask for from your dealer (it's free). They used have a post editing CD but I haven't seen one since V9 (not that I've asked for it either though).

The MC debug feature may actually be more confusing if you're not used to seeing at least some correlation prior. There's so much info given that it may appear as a lot of clutter to the 'untrained' eye... The older debug was simpler to follow from a 'learning' standpoint...
It's just a part..... cutter still goes round and round....

To be honest, It's nice that you want to learn, but time wise, it's really cheaper to have someone write your posts. You could spend 100's of hours learning and tweeking your single post and 1-2 years later when you get a new machine, you'll have the same learning curve all over. What kind of machine/control do you have?

I have the complete V9 postprocessor documentation available on CD if your interested. The stuff for X, I'd have to dig up. Send me an email.

The Haas post was already a pretty good post. What's it NOT doing for you?

Sounds like a very cool place to work. Where are you located?

im kinda new to mastercam only really been using it for a year now. i like it.

yeah it's pretty good but alil flawed IMHO.
the first thing i want my machine to do is g28g91z0 so it wont crash moving in x or y

I get a g20 where i want the g28g91z0 . dont need a g20 my machines never leave the inch system and never will
the last line before the m30 is g28g91x0y0 I dont want the x0 just the y0

and i always want to /m8 after the g43 line
and a g90 after the g28g91y0 just in case somebody goes into mdi and the machine isnt doing what they thought it would cause its in g91

i try to program as thoughfully as i can for my guys on the floor

and ive got a Haas 510 Gantry router with homemade shielding around it
to keep the mess down alittle bit it needs a special startup for changing tools
thru the little cutout in the shielding
instead of a regular g28g91z0 it then needs an x0 to go to the windows
then another g28g91z0 to get the tool as high as possible for traveling
thru the window and then down in xy to the part

    thanks

http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=77502 Go here & read & I think it will help you get the results you need. This is for 5 Axis , but I applied this method to the generic mpmaster post & it gives good, clean code. hth

if you really want to get into posts. contact mastercam and find out when there next class is. I just finished their basic post class and was worth every cent (not mine, the company paid for it). Paul did an excellent job and hopefully I can talk the company into sending me to the advance class after I get a good grip on the basics.

the router add-on is more for complexed industrial routers, think more block drilling, mutliple tool heads, so on. for a simple 3 or 4 axis router, mill package is all you need.

Router has support for gang type drill heads. If you have a standard 3 axis router, mill will work just fine for you.
