    Stand-alone CNC controller

    Hi sirs,

Many people here is talking about PC CNC controller, I also agree that PC base cnc controller is more flexible and cheapper (some products), but for the lower end products, we always face the problem that low pulse rate, unstanble etc. As known, low pusle rate means low resolution and low speed,
unstable means the machine can not produce good quality of parts.

So I wonder who use stand alone controller which is made by RISC or DSP.
To my knowledge, the stand alone controller can generate very hign pulse rate such as 500KHz max. and very stable, because it work with very small realtime knerl and its data processing speed is very hign.

it can be made in very small size.

I know Extratech can do that. but they are willing to sell to individual.
Please tell me if anyone know stand alone cnc controller.

    Thanks

    Tim

I had a Delta Tau controller on a plasma for a while. There was a controller like this that sold on ebay for $425 recently. Keep an eye out at ebay. They will run steppers or servos depending on controller setup.

You will see both Delta Tau, Galil, and other controllers on Ebay.
These are stand alone controller that can plug into a PC for use interface.
I have used Delta Tau on many machine and had know problems.

Hi, I use a DSP cnc controller , it does work will without ATC, I make de machining programme and store the programme into the controller or a Flash disk, then the controller works individually without computer. I do think it is good design, the contorller can work day and night, for example when engraving the very large mould for skin , the programme will be very large up to 100M, I think it can work well. but If using PC base controller, we do not garrantee the computer without any fault for so long time. However, DSP controller has limit resource, so the function will be limited.
I know extratech use RISC/DSP for their standalone cnc controller. But I don't like this controller always connecting to computer.

    Any comment please.

Since I specialize in building custom servo driven factory automation equipment, it gives me a prime opportunity to run across used equipment and scavenge parts. I built a plasma from components from an obsolete machine I purchased for scrap. The machine came with a PMAC 8 axis card and several Yaskawa 400W servo motors. I didn't have the space for it and hardly used the thing, so I took it apart and sold the components. Now, I could use the darn thing. You know what they say about hindsight.
