(Suggestion) Moving the 3D printers threads??

Hi, it's great to read all the new 3D printer threads and see them take off here on the forum amongst the metal guys, but if I could put forward a suggestion maybe it would be better if all the 3D printer threads were moved to a sub-section of the metalworking machines benchtop machines forum like the "Taig" section?

I know there's another 3D printers section under the "other machines -> printing scanning" section but that is a bit dead and most of the interest seems to be here with the benchtop machines people and a group of friends all building togehter.

Maybe the old threads from the printing/scanning section could be moved and added to these new 3D printer threads, and all moved into a new subsection of the benchtop machines forum? That way we don't have to look through heaps of GO704 threads to find 3D printer threads?

I'm mainly just a reader here in this metalwork forum section so maybe the regulars and major contributors can comment?

It's a suggestion that is worth considering. Here's my two cents.

I don't know if it's needed yet. I've only seen two threads so far. It might be needed later if the popularity of these machines increases.

One problem with subdividing any forum is the potential for brain drain, as some very smart people with narrow fields of interest will only stay in their subforum.

Benchtop Machines already has three subforums. Right now, I'm hesitant to do anything that would further fragment this forum.

I think there are enough subforums already and making another one in metal working for 3D printers makes no sense.
If you have a problem then bring it up to management and the 3d printer threads can be moved to the other forum you mentioned
    where they technically belong.
The benchtop forum is the most popular of the metal working and gets it's share of thread topics that don't technically belong.
    It's a bit of a melting pot.
The X3/SX3 subforum was created because of one newbies request, people still post new X3/SX3 threads here that need to be moved.
Lathe threads are posted here that technically should be in the lathe subforum, etc.
Doesn't really matter, if the thread isn't to your interest, you don't have to read it.

But the issue becomes people looking for "Metal Working" machines and finding Plastic printing machines.

Benchtop maybe, but they are not metalworking machines, regardless how cool they are. Benchtop Machines are a subforum of MetalWorking, and because of that, it should be moved imho..

Yeah and threads on software aren't metal working machines either but there are plenty of those on here too.

Agreed, but the software discussed is part of the benchtop, metal working machines in almost every case I have seen.

Look, I have aleady been evicted from this forum since I own a SX3, so it doesn't matter to me either way, but to be fair, they are in the wrong category.

  7. #7
That's what I said above too, technically they are but if you want them evicted you have
to complain to management so they can decide.
It's not like we can move our own threads.
For the record, the printer has made parts for my mill and vice versa so they have a common thread too.

You don't want to look at the 3d printer threads don't click on them is the way I see it.

I'm always happy except when I follow one of your threads and it makes me want to spend money I don't have.

edit: Whoops I thought you were talking to me. (chair)

    Thumbs up

What the heck? A couple guys complain and we start moving threads. (nuts) How do I move my 3d printer thread then? If guys dont want to look at I'll put it where they think it goes then.(chair) This makes my life so much harder now and I'm guessing many others who mainly look at the benchtop forum. Need to bounce around more forums now.:boxing: To me one of the complaints I've seen about CNCzone is there are too many forums/subforums. I guess the squeaky wheel gets the oil.

Do I need to contact a moderator to get my thread moved?

I'm not happy Hoss but I guess not everybody can be.

Edit: Nevermind they already moved. Thanks

We are already moved, I was asking if those not happy before with our printer threads were happy now.
Done deal, management has spoken, nothing we can do now but move on.

Cant we have a sub forum for them here?
It only makes sense as they are benchtop machines and most of us that are "into" them come HERE on a daily basis.
Slatronic, I feel ya, kinda how I felt getting banished to the X3/SX3 subforum.

Kinda like having to sit at the kiddie table at thanksgiving haha

Well its impossible to make everybody happy, there is a forum for 3D Printers so some one though they should be in their right forum,
There is more than one person posting in this thread that have made the same kind of complaint for a post in a wrong forum in one or another!!.
The majority of forum creations and post moves etc, are usually done at the wishes of a member(s).

It makes perfect sense to move them if for no other reason than it would be absolutely impossible for someone new to CNCZone (or even old to CNCZone, but not a regular in this forum) with an interest in 3D printers to find them, when they're buried in MetalworkingMachines->BenchtopMachines. It's completely illogical for them to be here.

blah, now i have to surf to two sections of the forum.

it was quite nice cuz it seems the only people interested in 3D printers on this site are the ones who are also interested/active in the benchtop metalworking machines.

You owe him an apology! It was another member that reported it through the Reported Post feature.

That coming from one of the guys with a software thread here, stl2dxf on the benchtop forum
that has nothing specific to do with metalworking benchtop machines as it's general software.

It's not illogical. A metal working person who was completely uninterested in 3D printers may become interested if a highly respected member of metal working like Hoss shows interest. Think about Facebook, you invite friends, not categories.

I always looked in the 3D section which was dead prior to Xnaron, Hoss, RWSkinner and MHackney getting the topic going in the metalworking section. I always thought it should have been in the 3D section but could work with it either way. The other way to look at it is that you get the opportunity to see yet another forum that provides a wealth of information for the incredibly low price of FREE! I am going to read it no matter where you try to hide it!
