Hey does any one have any tips on selling a SX3? I converted the Grizzly model with cnc fusion kit in 2007 and after having 3 kids in 4 years I need to get rid of it. It has the xylotex 4axis board. My first thoughts were of Craigslist. Also, any idea what they are worth used?

my plan after I get my Tormach is to post it on CL for what I paid for it: $3000-$3500. Crazy? NI! er, NO I mean.

I've watched CL for over a year and not a single x3 type cnc has gone up for sale in Orange County, LA, or Inland Empire... thats a LOT of freakin people. I plan to advertise it as what it is: A once in a lifetime opportunity to get a garage-perfect CNC mill ready to cut at a savings of about 300 hours of work and research. I will offer the mill with no tooling and 20 hours of hands on training valued at easily $1200 (i bill at $60/hr).

I think in 20 hours I could teach homer simpson to design and cut 2D parts and have a fair understanding of cad, cam, g-code, cnc, and set up. in the process I might even offer to throw in a nice package of tooling for another $1000 (matching 5" vises, tts starter kit, grizzly basic em set, dti, parallels, oils, mist unit, etc).

If someone wants a turn key cnc that fits in a one car garage and still have room for their motorcycle and weight bench for $4000 they have 0 options that don't include investing hundreds of hours of research and building... I will be able to give one person that option.... I'm like a saint or something. lol

Seriously though, the guy who bought my 8" 4 jaw independent chuck offered me $3000 on the spot for the x3. He ownes a welding shop and doesn't have room or time to"fix-er-up" a large used cnc which is all thats available on the market. I laughed and said maybe next year... its next year.

I got the go ahead from my landlord to upgrade our main breaker, inside panel, and run power to my detached garage... been running for a year on two big extension cords LOL!!

Not only is she paying for all of the materials, but she also is going to let me cut a bay door in the wall into the 6x12 shed thats attached to the side... so I go from 120v and blowing the occasional breaker, to garage having 240 for compressor, tormach and larger saw PLUS 40% more space!!! Sorry... I'm a little giddy.

I'm working 4 nights a week until 10 (after my normal 9 hour work day) and most weekend days from 7am-5pm) to get this all going, but the work is there. Hell, too much work is there if I had a bigger machine w/ tool changer... I'm turning away at least $300 a week because I can't fit/cut the parts. Thats without having made "my" first part yet, or advertising for that matter. Gotta get it all set up before my wife (newly wed) gets pregnant, has a kid, then I IMMEDIATELY get a vasectomy... and buy her a cat when she gets husband-cant-have-and-doesn't-want-a-second-kid syndrome. HCHDWSK is real people... (and yes after much convincing she agreed to a kid and cat.

Congrats on the family! Good luck on your sale! be patient, sell high, and teach someone a new addiction, er, hobby.

Don't feel bad. I'm in the same boat. Just bought a novakon 200. Don't really want to sell my x3 but don't have any room. Probably go three prong between CL, ebay, and CNCZone. Good luck.

PriddyShiddy - Thanks I like your sales pitch! I find my desire to perform hobby work diminished. I slightly remember having the energy to run electrical 220 to my basement years ago. I do think if one day I ever return to this after working all day - I will need a more commercial style machine than the hobby kit the sx3 provides. Too much set-up and management of tools, limit switches, zeroing, rotating parts, and the power is not really there either. Very Very good for learning on - education wise - very very slow for producing parts.

Its seems as if you enjoy a challenge - so why stop at just one?

I couldn't agree with you more. The whole process of building and learning on the x3 was priceless and I wouldn't go back and do it any other way. At this point it has already paid itself off as far as mill and cnc components... tooling is a whole different beast of course.

I just sent out for quotes on three jobs for a total of 1600 parts for a pneumatics company. if I had a Tormach with ATC and 4th, plus a decent cnc turret lathe that would be $10600 gross... that would have kept me busy for about 2 weeks. I suspect I'll be setting up a Tormach 1100 by summers end.

Wired a new main and inside box this weekend and need to dig up to get ready to run 240v out to the shop soon. Then I have to knock out a wall to make room for the tormach. I won't even have room for my x3 much less yours

In a month I will have a 1000 x 300 table CNC mill, and there is no way I will sell my Syil SX3 (3600 rpm), unless I am pushing daisies. It is just too good. I can always ask what I paid for it, and get it.
