    Sync. Spindle and A Axis

As near as I can tell this hasn't been asked for a couple of years so I'll throw it out there. Can the spindle of a Haas ( or another brand mill) be synchronized with the A axis? If the spindle can be synced to the Z axis for rigid tapping, why not the A axis? Are there hardware issues I don't understand or is it simply a matter the software?

    Thanks, Tom

Your question is not real clear.

If you are comparing the rigid tap of the Z axis, it needs to be noted that rigid tap uses a separate encoder for the spindle and added software.

If you enter the correct A diameter in the graphics section and do Z and A movements, they can be coordinated.

Is that what you are asking?

Ultimately I'd like to do two things. Have the A axis rotate thru 60 degrees for each rotation of the spindle and maintain the relationship between the spindle orientation and A zero. With the HA5CSB this would equate to 120 RPM A axis and 720 RPM spindle.

Please advise the purpose for this and that will help us figure it out.

Essentially I guess I'm wanting to do hobbing.

    Sync spindle and A axis

There are several issues with this.
First is that there is no G code to support it.
    And... it really is hobbing.
Another is the spindle encoder resolution.
At 4000 parts per rev, it does not have enough resolution to command A smoothly.
One more problem is the A axis speed - 120 RPM is faster than even the fast 5C.
