    Tail stock option

Please forgive me if this is especially stupid, but I have never been around a CNC lathe with a turret, let along operated one!

Some of the discussion here has been about concerns of whether there would be a tail stock offered for the slant bed lathes.

Would it be practical to use one of the stations on the "coming soon" turret as a tail stock by just inserting a live or dead center?

I realize this would stop you from using the turret for the job, but it seems that for most cases where you would like to use a tail stock, turning with the CXA tool post would work well?

You couldn't do that. What would you use to turn with? The turret bolts to the cross slide just like the CXA. There really is no way to do it unless it bolted to the ways and was super long to go over the slide.

Thank's for straightening me out. I did think the turret was fastened to the rear of the bed, but now I realize it would need some kind of feeding mechanism built into it and would be more complicated than is really required.

The turret AND the quick change tool post mount to the cross slide. So if the turret was holding the end of the work piece then it cannot move so the QCTP can be used.
