    The BIGGEST THK rails ever!!?

I picked up some rails for a project, here are pics. That is a regular CD on the slide block. The rails are 7 feet long and weigh ~185lbs.

That must have been one great auction or someone was cleaning house.

Are there any letters or numbers on the sides of the blocks.

If memory serves me right, THK uses 3 letters followed by a series of numbers.

It looks like SR series to me. Maybe a SR60W. I think these should cost from $4000-$6000.

I remember reading in one of THK's pdfs that some of the applications for their rails include 'buildings'. These may be for just such an application.

    Small Lathe Bed?

You could make a small lathe out of one. Rail would be the lathe bed (cut down in length) and one bearing block would make a nice carrage.

Dennis, did you find the ballscrew yet?

If you want to see really big rail, check out THK JUP series. 9 inch wide rails, 780 tons per block. That`s like 2 Boeings 777

2k for rails like that isn't bad at all, it's easy to get over a thousand for one of the normal rails.

I was told by the THK western US sales manager that the Honda Motor Co. building in Tokyo Japan is mounted to THK linear guides for siesmic protection. each runner block is about the size of a 40gal oil drum, and the ball bearings are about 4" in dia.
