There is such a big push for Solidworks out in the industry with little mention of its main competitor, Autodesk Inventor. I have just installed Inventor 11 professional and all I can say is "Wow, watch out SolidWorks!" Inventor now comes with component generators (for things like gears) and a full library of standard components and engineering calculators. Also included now is a full stress analysis package, and an incredible built in animation and rendering tool called Inventor Studio. Attached is a 3 second animation I did in Inventor. Check it out. Just incredible if you ask me (that is the middle grade rendering quality btw). Let's see SolidWorks or Alibre do that.
Inventor Professional provides 3D parametric CAD, stress analysis, rendering, and animation all in one package. If your company is looking to purchase new software, you should definitely check it out.
If the video won't play, you need the Cinepak Radius codec. Anyway, I just thought you all should be aware of the capabilites of SolidWorks' main competitor.
