TL-5 with Fanuc 6T giving 401 alarm on X axis

    1980 TL-5 with Fanuc 6T (no CRT)

Machine was running great and alarmed out #401 during a light facing cut. Since then it will let me move X various distances before alarming out again. Everything seems to move freely, I even loosened the gib on X big time to make sure nothing was binding. It sounds normal when moving as well. So I don't think it is a true overloading issue. I removed the brushes from the servo and cleaned them out to no avail. Any other ideas where I should start looking? Is there a thermostat somewhere that may be throwing an overtemp?

Did you clean the tach on the motor as well?

No I didn't. Not quite sure what to look for?

Is it on the end of of the servo itself?

Ok looks like the X axis actually is binding up. Removed the belt and the motor runs fine by itself but cannot turn ball screw by hand. Time to get dirty
