    tool height setting question

I need a way to set my tool heights when doing tool changes.

Im new to milling a cnc and cant grasp this yet. i am using R8 collets (not end mill holders) so i dont have any repeatability with different size tools put in the collets at different heights everytime .

Because of that i need to find a tool height everytime i put a new tool in. When running a program and it calls for a tool change how do i find the height of the tool in mid program? I surely cant set the height before running the program since the next time i put the tool in when running the program it would be a different height .

I have a .060 touchplate i made and a Hoss tool probe screen to find tool heights but can i use this during a tool change in a program?

Also i am trying to find out how to use the tool probe correctly . I set the plate thickness (.060) .When i press the z tool probe button the tool comes down and contacts the plate then retracts 1" back up. Does this automatically set the right height in work DRO's or Machine DRO's ? Im not sure since it retracts back up to 1" everytime. Also do i have to manually jog the height difference of the .060 or it removes it automatically, Lastly do i then set the height it says the tool is in the tool table or am i ready to go ?

    Thanks for the help.

    Re: tool height setting question

Simply zero your new tool each tool change, its not like your giving the tool an offset, ie. M6 T3 G43 H3, you would just have M6 T3, so no offset. I'm on Tapatalk and don't remember the other questions, because I can't see them while typing this, sorry.
