    Turret motor brushes on VFO

Today my VFO alarmed out and after checking a couple things it turned out to be the brushes in the turret motor on the tool changer. I called Haas parts and they said the brushes are no longer for sale and I have to buy a whole new turret motor for $705 !!! I think it's outrageous to have to spend $705 when these brushes can't be more than $5 ea.

Has anyone found a substitute for the Haas brushes????

    HELP! (my machine is down)

    PS
I've changed them before, a few years back

Try Helwig Carbon, they make substitute brushes for many makes.
    They will even custom make.

It's a 96 VFO and it is a Bison motor. It's the one that makes the tool carousel go around.
Thanks for all the help and suggestions everyone

I did try that and the local guy could not find anything with the same dimensions in his book. I called Bison the last time I replaced the brushes and the minute I said Haas, they clammed up and wouldn't talk to me anymore.

Bodine motors no problem. Bison made motors with the brush guides too small and the brushes would stick. Bison is the problem.

Probably HAAS wants to sell you a different motor to solve the problem. Check what HAAS's current brand is.

Find something close and file it to fit.

I talked with Lance at OCI sales and he figured it out. I sent him a pcture and measurements. Sounds like a good deal
