    UHMW alternative?

I have some slide bushings, currently made out of uhmw, for an aluminum piece....not unlike a large sliding glass door frame, moving in its threshold.
The uhmw is working o.k., but the fit and finish of the individual bushing parts leave a little to be disired. They work , but when I go to mass produce, I want a "clean" set of parts to assemble. Are there any other choices besides UHMW?
They will have a load, but low speed, and not more than 1.5 feet of travel.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks

    Chris

Delrin will probably work very well. Use a small amount of lubricant such as soft wax or a thin film of vaseline.
An open mind is a virtue...so long as all the common sense has not leaked out.

Nylatron or Delrin AF (teflon filled), maybe. There's a few materials that are typically under the heading of "wear strip" or somesuch. Mcmaster has a lot of different bushing appropriate materials.

Delrin is similar to acetal, it isn't as tough as UHMWPE, but cleans up very nicely after machining.

Getting the correct cutter geometry, DOC, feeds and speeds and your machine should cut UHMW perfectly.
I agree that it is not as "fun" as other materials to machine.
Nylon is kinda fussy as well.

Do a Google for "nylon humidity" and you'll see why you don't want to use nylon.
