I picked up the KL23H276-30-8A steppers. They may not as much torque, but from some of the back and forth here, they seem to be a solid option.
I'll check into the HTD series belts. I saw the XL belts are good up to 1/4 hp, and that's pretty much where my machine would be. Having something that can handle more would certainly be more ideal.
I went with acme rods mostly because of cost, but also because I couldn't find ball screws for a reasonable price that would match my linear movements. Hopefully they'll at least get my started, and I can upgrade them later in the future if I need to. The project has also scaled up a bit from my initial expectations of when I started this project and began buying parts. Sometimes I just need to step back and remember that this is my 1st CNC build and is still a learning process. I built a 3D printer about 4 years ago, so I thought I'd be ready for a build like this, but didn't realize all the nuances and how everything works together. I've really learned a lot.
But now that I have the 282 oz/in motors with the 10tpi acme screws, what would the most ideal gear ratio (if gearing is used) to drive it? I don't want to do direct drive inline because it'll make the motors stick out the back and sides too far. Also, how much current will I need the 48v psu to be to drive these 4 motors?
Attached are images of what I'm planning the machine to look like. I still need to upgrade the 3D model from the nema 17's to 23's, but most else is there.
