Using BobCAD 2007 to machine one section of a part

    Hello,

I have BobCAD 2007 with Level 2 Predator software. I was wondering if anyone knew how to tell BobCAD 2007 to just machine a section of a part? For me, it is an arc. I have attached with this message the part I am trying to machine in DXF & DWG file formats. Also, has anyone else had problems opening files into BobCAD 2007 that where either Solidworks (.sldprt) or Autodesk (.dwg) file formats? Thanks in advance.

So far the latest update seems to work good for opening files. I have done a few parts where just sections of parts need machined. I have added or removed geometry to accomplish this though.

Sorry but I am at home and can not look at your parts.

That DXF is a DWG File and it came through ok with the exception that the Sphered Radius is missing a small section. I could be that my Graphics Card Acceleration is set too fast but if I change it this PC locks up.

I suggest that you try the Follow Curve in the 3D Menu. Here is a Pic showing you where it is. Have you seen Sorin's Free Video Tutorials. This Function is also in the Help files but Sorin's Videos show you so much more.

    Cheers!!!!!!!

Question Also Need To Machine Just One Section Of A Part

I'M USING BOBCAD 2007 WITH PREDITOR LEVEL II I Can't Get The Software To Do Just One Section, It Wants To Machine The Whole Thing. When I Pick One Section It Plows Throught The Rest Of The Part As If It Wasn't There. Do To Part Holding Constraints The Front Radius IS What I Need To Cut By Its Self. But Just Knowing How To Do Specific Sections Would Be A Really Nice Trick To Know. Thanks To Anybody In Advance With Any Help!

I have not tried this but if you make your Stock Size to that Area and select the Whole Model it might work for Machining a specific area. Verify it and let us know if it works.:rainfro:

I do it but in a little different way than you may think

Copy the solid and place on a new layer. Hide all the others.

Now break the solid into surfaces. Remove all the areas you do not wish to machine.

Next machine that section and limit the travel to the edges (several ways to go from here but that gives you the picture).

You can also add surfaces to redirect or change the area to limit to.

Toby, is that a screenshot of 2007? If so, where did you get the "3-d" menu? I havent found it under the "customize" settings. Am I missing something?

    Machining One Section

This Is What Has Worked So Far. I Drew A Single Line Arc The Same Size As The Radius Section On The Model And At The Same Z Level, And Did A Profile Cut With The Correct Depth Of Cut. Tryed Making The Stock Just The Size Of The Section To Be Mahcined Didn't Have Any Luck It Still Wants To Cut The Backside, But Still Working On It. Thanks For The Help So Far!
