If anybody has anything to add, please feel free. Im sure there's a few gurus out there. I'd really like to get up and running again and this is my only chance.
I'm a little late to this party, but have been working on a similar (DIY 4th axis integration) on my own. I can confirm (and have verified with Tormach) that the information in the Series 3 manual that SwampDonkey copied above is INCORRECT. The Direction, Step and +5V signals can be found on pins 3, 4, and 5 of the 2x5 IDC (ribbon) connector.

Please read the thread carefully, in particular my post #10.

Hi Step - it would have saved me some trouble if I had seen your reference to Robert's pinout. Shame on me for not following the rabbit hole.

At any rate, it may be useful to others to know (for sure) that the manual's pinout is wrong as of the date of this thread. I am referring to the IDC ribbon connector on the drive side, not to the controller side.

I have learned so much from this group, but it is the community aspect that really blows me away.

Now I'm with you. First I couldn't find the table at all, and when I did manage to find it I didn't notice the right hand column (chair)
I must be getting older faster than I thought!
