    Hey Juiceman,

Pretty darn good release. I have had the 5.0 demo since the release last tuesday..there are a lot of dramatic positive improvements.

I left my initial impression in the thread above. I am still going to be on 4 for a while, but am looking forward to hearing opinions from other current users.

duluthboat, does this cadcam softweare have a convertor to bring in direct Rhino files?

I know that we just started supporting direct Rhino.
(Note: The opinions expressed in this post are my own and are not necessarily those of CNCzone and its management)

Visual Mill 5 directly opens Rhino (.3dm) files.

All versions ( at least since my first version 1.x ) of visual mill open native Rhino files. Those two programs are about all I have used for over two years.

The new VM5 actually uses licensed Rhino code for geometry creation internally. Mecsoft and McNeel seem to have a very close working relationship.

    Take care,

    I have Version 5..........

The program has the makings of world class software...... lots of usefull stuff and a nice user interface. The software now has unlimited undo features which was a big improvement.... I have been on the phone with Mecsoft and emailing them about some bugs - most of which they were already aware and I was tolds that a patch would be available on Manday Dec 8th to fix......

I had a few problems with some tools- the rotate tool was one.
All in all Visual Mill 4.0 is nice.... especially if you want to machine solids.... its importation of Rhino, and Iges files is awesome and almost idiot proof.....

The 2-d stuff in 4 was a little nasty, HOWEVER, 5.0 is a huge improvement on this.......and now the 2d suff is much expanded and improved upon.

The one thing Ill say about Mecsoft is support is a 100% A+.

For the money you really cant beat it.......

Ill keep posting as I use it more. I am getting ready to machine some full size boat hulls that I will be cutting in sections due to the fact that my machine has a 9" cut height, and only 4'X 8'.... The boat is 16' long, and 5' wide roughly, and 19" deep. Im doing a inner frame work with thin ply wood Ill cut out on CNC. Then Ill spray foam on it, then machine it - repeat on the rest and assemble them all when finished... Ill post the results... all will be programed using Visual mill.

Thanks for your thoughts. I look forward impatiently to the results of the boat project.
