    vxb linear rails

Has anyone used the VXB system? I am looking at getting a 20mm rails with blocks for my small 3'x4' cnc router (y axis). Thanks.

3x4 is not small for unsupported 20mm rails. Expect a lot of flex.

    vxb rails

That is my concern. Anyway to support the length for no flex? Thanks.

Get the pre drilled ones so you can attach some supports. Thats is what I am going to use in my build. I will make some supports out of 3/8 in flat bar. I will mill a 20mm radius to mate with the rail and bolt it to my frame. Hope to have pics soon.

i am looking at doing basically the same thing.
20mm rails with the open linear bearing
the rail will be supported at each end with aluminum support blocks
and strip of either aluminum or mdf running under the rail to keep it from deflecting.
i will probably use mdf for budget reasons.
it should do the job good enough since they just have to sit there and support the rail.
i wouldnt think the rail will be pushing down hard enough to deform mdf.

There are significant side to side forces also.

What about drilling an tapping for some support rods that could be welded to my metal sub frame about every 6inches. As I said earlier I would think its pretty tuff drilling into hardend steel never mind tapping oh my....This would eliminate down flex and side to side motion. Has anyone attempted drilling if so how did it go and what kind of bit was used....Thanks.

well i decided to go ahead and throw down another $10 per rod and go with the 60" drilled/tapped rods.
and i guess i will make some support blocks out of aluminum to bolt to them.
hopefully with that rod and decent supports there will be little or no flexing.

I managed to drill and tap the ones I bought, they did not offer drilled and tapped when I bought mine. It took two carbide end mills to do it. That stuff is real hard!

I didn't see any info on their site for ordering them pre drilled and tapped....uugghhh...Well, I'll just have to attempt it myself...Thanks...any pics.....Just checked the site and there they are 3 pages from the 20mm section....
