Hi All,
My Name is Ed Smits. I guess my passion started in high school when I took 2 years of Machine technology. I learned how to operate manual lathes, Bridgeport Knee mills, manual grinders, MIG TIG gas and Stick welding, casting and a little bit of CNC work. I have awards from local shows for a few hammers I have made, chess sets, as well as I would make my own bike parts from time to time. That class afforded me an opportunity to start in the manufacturing environment as a Co-op working at a local Die maker. While working there I would run raw material through the saws, clean up, Polish dies by hand, and eventually had a brief period where I was running CNC lathes. From there I moved over to a large local family owned show, Fitzpatrick Mfg. Co. where I started in packaging and assembly, eventually moving over to running my own fabrication jobs for an oilfield supplier and gained about 4 years experience with set up's, programming and editing, and of course operating mazak Lathes, Doosan and Puma Lathes, Mori Seiki MV-40 mills, Haas Vf2ss and VF4SS mills.
While my passion has always been machining, my career goals took a different role. I had always been interested in human resources and project management. After 8.5 years with Fitz I decided it was time to move over to focus on my career i was going to school for. I started out as a temporary employee with Kelly Services, recruiting for customer service reps for Apple and recruiting for delivery driver's for FedEx. After a year I was offered an opportunity to work full-time with Kelly as a recruiter for Dow Chemical Company. I support various locations across the US, recruiting for anything from general fork lift operators all the way up to high level scientists and chemical engineers. One of the main reasons I took this position was because one of the Dow facilities I would be recruiting for has a need for CNC machinists. I now enjoy both of my passions recruiting CNC machinists and placing them in excellent opportunities with my customer.
I look forward to conversing with all of you and sharing our passion for all types of machining.
