Do you mean the regen resistors for braking the spindle?
An open mind is a virtue...so long as all the common sense has not leaked out.
The unit I have is about 12x4x4 This is part of the Fanuc spindle driver electronics. I read that it is used for braking but I don't know if all motors can use it or if its only a requirement for certain motors or if its used in combination with a motor and the drive.
I am seeking to replace my Fanuc drive and expect I'll need this but for some reason finding clear information about motor systems has been difficult.
It serves two purposes, assists in braking the motor for faster stopping and prevents bus over voltage by switching the regenerated voltage into a resistor bank when overvoltage occurs.
Depending on what drive you are looking to integrate, most VFD's accept external braking as an option.

One of the things I am trying to do is determine a spindle drive that would be appropriate as a replacement. I don't want to "buy and try", I would like to have a high level of confidence that what I get will work before I get it.
What I know
Fanuc - model # A06B-1002-B600 #2000
200V AC
4 pole
3 HP 5 HP Peak
11 Amps 15 Amps peak
1800-8000 RPM
There is an encoder on the motor
The original control Fanuc a06b-6052-h002
