What is IPM (inches per minute)?

Hello. I am new in this helpful website. I need help, guys. Please tell me what is IPM? Is it the the idle motion speed (non carving) or motion speed (the speed during carving) or both? I will appreciate any help. Thanks.

It stands for increments per minute. If you have inches selected in the control software, then yes, inches per minute if millimeters, well you get the idea. Idle motion speed???? If idle, no movement. Most systems run at the programmed speed (g-code) when cutting and rapid speed when moving outside of the cut.
Hope this helps and if I'm in error, someone please correct me.
I'm fairly new to this also.

You are right IPM is a speed measuring unit (inches per minute).
But if your software is setup for metric output and still asks for speeds in IPM then it should perform the conversion internally to millimeter per minute.

You can have your feed rate (carve speed) in IPM and your traverse rate (positioning speed) in IPM also.
