I am starting to build my first CNC too. I just bought a bunch of high quality linear guides and bearings, and lead screws with anti-backlash nuts off of EBay. Have some patience and spend a few weeks watching for a good deal, and you'll have a lot to choose from.

That's a shade under 12 inches for us U.S. guys. Seems pricey. I've bought several motion stages on eBay-nice ones-and prices have been between $200-$250. I got one that has a perfect ground ballscrew, THK rails, 24 inches/61cm of travel, and an included NEMA 34 stepper in that price range. Also got some with less travel (under ten inches), but still ground screws and THK rails, plus built in limit switches and delivered with NEMA 23 brushless servos in that price range. I can't see paying the high price of the new items when you can get good deals at a fraction of the cost of new on eBay. I do understand that for you shipping costs will be painful, but I'd bet you might still come out ahead.
