Gentlemen,
Hello all from NC. This is my first post here!
I recently picked up a smallish spindle from eBay to use on my first CNC mill project. It is about the right size and weight for me. The bearings are tight and smooth, but are NOT angular contact. Deep groove ball bearing type.
Is this going to be an issue for the light milling and drilling I plan to do? My mill will use Daedel 400 series XR linear slides; a 404XR for the Z axis and a 406XR for the Y, gantry style. Even if you don't know what these are, they run on NEMA 23 steppers, so figure not a heckuva lot of torque will be placed on this spindle.
I'm posting a thread to the auction, you'll be able to see the spindle. Anybody have an idea how this thing will hold up in a light CNC application?
As an aside, this has me wondering about the bearings in a typical Sherline or Max10 type mill. Are these angular contact? If not, then I'm not going to worry, as the performance envelope will be roughly similar for my mill.
Thanks all for looking and any feedback I might enjoy.
