    x-axis question

Hi, I just found this forum and I see a lot of nice home made CNC routers here. I just got me a couple Vexta 1.8 deg/step stepper motors made by Oriental Motor Co. on eBay and I'm now thinking about my design.
I want to build a cheap CNC router that can be used to mill wood and aluminum and can be used to create circuit boards. I have a Dremel type tool that I want to use.
The two types of CNC designs I have seen are:
    1. The object to be milled is fixed in place and the tool moves
    2. The object moves back and forth and the tool only moves left/right and up/down
Other than the extra space needed for the table when moving the object around, what are the pro's/con's to these different designs?
