    X Y Calibration?

I have a K40 and it's chassis is absolute crap. The X bearing is not square with the Y and it's pretty noticeable even within a short distance. Is there some way to compensate for this in the software? What would that be called? Google turns up nothing when I search "laser cutter x y calibration"

Otherwise I will have to try to get that whole assembly out and square it up which is not a pleasant prospect.

There is no such thing. Software moves the mirrors around but they have to be aligned by being perfectly square

If that's true it is ridiculous. How simple would it be for the software to -1 Y for every +2 X?

    Hi Robofarmer,

There is a simple way to fix your problem, The X axis needs to be shimmed. Use some cheap cardboard and cut a 4" right triangle. Use this and get your angle value. Get a cheap feeler gauge set from Harbor Freight. Calculate your correction, Loosen the two screws where the axis bar is attached to the Y axis assembly put the value of feelers in the gap outboard of the screw on the opposite side of the direction you want to move the bar and tighten the bar up and re-cut a new triangle.

This may take a few times to get right.

The real correction would be to pull the X axis bar out and have a machinist re-cut the end of the bar square.

Don't forget to reset your mirrors...
