Can Lego Mindstorms block run a "real" CNC?

I've seen the Lego CNC on Youtube, but I was wondering if you can use the NXT block to run a larger CNC or 4'x8' router? I'm researching a bit and looking at different possibilities.

If you could use it, what would be the advantages/ disadvantages? Thanks all.

Although the mindstorms would be great for some real world robotic applications Cnc is not one of them. The small Cnc machines on YouTube are about the best I can see you getting for that type of application. They do not provide the correct interface or enough motor power. Check out the gecko g540. It is in the same price range and is a much better solution.

Arduino can work too, but in the end a real controller and drivers win.

    Mindstorms driver

Thanks guys for the answers and suggestions. I'm looking to get the Blackfoot 4'x8' router as it looks to be the best bang for the buck (unless there's something better). I know I could build it myself but I'm not looking to spend the time building it but more time making stuff with it.

    Thanks again!

Look at the Joe's 4x4 Hybrid (it can be expanded to 4x8) Welcome to Joe'sCNC.com

It might be a little more money, but it's a far better machine than the blackfoot.
