    DATA TRANSFER FROM SCRATCH

    Hi

Due to relocation,we have several machines which are no longer hard wired for data transfer so have no way of saving or tranferring programs.

We have 3 x Haas vf3 which have the floppy drives so not much of a problem, and the others have RS232 connections.

I want to be able to plug from the RS232 into a laptop and save the data and edit if required.

I have a laptop, but no cables or software whatsoever.

I was thinking of getting some free downloads from OneCNC, such as nclink but need help on what I require regarding cables etc.

Any help would be grateful because, basically, I have no idea what to do!

    Cheers

You will need a USB to serial adapter unless your laptop has built on serial port(s). Most USB adapters are DB9 so you'll need a DB9 to DB25 straight through RS-232 cable. Once you have the correct usb adapter and cable then you'll need to set the port (9600, 8N1, for example) the same as the machine. Once your cabled properly then the DNC software should detect the connection and in some cases will identify the machine.

This has been discussed before in detail:
