    different geckos??? confused.

Ok, I've recently begun a cnc conversion project, and I got 3 bipolar steppers already. I need to find a controller and I'm fairly sure I'll be getting a gecko to handle the size of these boys. The motors are rated at 4.2v, 4.7a. nema 34. Anyway, I'm a total novice, and was wondering what the difference is between the g201 and the g210. Which one would be better for me. What does the more expensive 210 offer that the 201 doesent, and will that really matter to someone like me just starting out?

The G201 is a 10microstep drive and the G210 is selectable, so you can run at different microstep amounts 10 and under. I beleve theres an addon chip for the G201 to convert it to a G210.
I just stuck with the G201 because I want the best precision I can, I beleve you can get higher rapid rates on less microsteps, but its not selectable by software.

With those motors, if you want a rapid rate over 35ipm, youll want a higher voltage power supply than 30v, you can go up to 80v with the geckos and possibly get 120ipm without much problem on 5tpi ballscrews
Btw, I sent you a PM

Cool. Are there any other drivers I should consider for these motors?

Honestly there arent any that I can really think of, I know there are a few, maybe flashcut, but I would go with the gecko drives.

I was able to run 5000hz on these motors at 30v and very strong, I tried 10,000hz at that voltage and it couldnt quite handle it, but on 60v Im sure it can handle 12000hz or more wich would calculate to about 70-80ipm on 5tpi ballscrew
