    HSK 63 Tool Holder Stuck

    Hi Guys,

I have a Fimec ES929 HSK 63 spindle with less than 100 hours use which I allowed to bottom out on some MDF for a couple of minutes.
When I removed the slightly discoloured tool holder and cleaned it up there was a bit of greasy residue in the bottom the tool holder cavity which I hadn't noticed before

I tried to clean out and cool the lower end of the spindle- yeah I know now a dumb- to ensure the bearings were OK.
Since then I have inserted another tool only to have it seize up in the Spindle nose.

So far not wanting to damage anything with the knochrometer I have dismantled as much of spindle as I can but still can't dislodge the tool holder
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated in an effort to remove the Tool holder and prevent any furthe issues .

    Pete

Are you sure it's not being held by the grippers?

Yes my first problem is getting the gripper to release

Update that might hopefully help some one else who might find themselves in a similar situation.

I was reluctant to use a hydraulic press when I was unsure of the components and did not have an exploded view of them so I just built a simple press from steel tube and threaded rod which enabled me to gently apply pressure to the assembly . With this I was able get the top and centre section of the shaft to move down and open the gripper assembly but the tool holder would not release so I drilled a couple of access holes in the collar to allow symmetrical leverage on the tool holder which eventually popped off.

Once removed I was able to remove the centre section of the gripper with a 4 mm Allen Key and the thoroughly clean the area with acetone. I suspect that I could most likely have achieved the same result if I had just inserted the 4 mm Allen key through the centre hole in the tool holder in the first place and allowed it to come out without the need to disassemble the spindle at all!
