IrfanView 4.23 with the Plugins 4.22

IrfanView is a free software that can be downloaded from many sources that can (with the extra plugins 4.22) display and change .DXF files!

In fact it can handle over 60 different data types!!! It was also able to display over 90% of the .DXF files that I personally have collected....

Now me being a complete beginner with CNC, I cannot say just how useful this will be for any of us, but I personally would be MOST grateful if any of you "experts" could take a quick look and see if it could be useful for anyone with a small financial plan!

As it is a program to handle mainly digital pictures, it may be possible to rework the picture of a "loved one" (car or CNC machine of course, what were you thinking of?!) and produce a correctly sized .DXF file for eventual turning into a piece of CNC art.....

Please put your thoughts and findings in this Blog for all to read.

    Thanks in advance!

    Regards

    Der Fisherman

Where is the source code for this? Is it an 'open source' project, as in the header for this part of the forum?

    Where have you looked?
It is very easy to find! Just key into Google " Irfanview open source", it was the first hit with me!
So are you just lazy or what?
    regards and happy new year

I looked for it on the site for Irfanview:

    http://www.irfanview.com/

I did not see any C++,C, python, ruby, java, perl, etc.... source code. Using "Irfanview open source" doesn't get to any of that either.

Of course, I might be missing it completely.

I checked a few open source sites, O Static etc and none seem to say definitively that Irfanview is open source.
Here is a common quote I came across "..... Make sure to check out IrfanView (which is freeware, not open source, ..."
I have used it since the early ver 3 and it is a great little program.

    Thanks Al,

Sometimes it is confusing determining the difference between free and open software. Some of the websites aren't too clear.

    Thanks,

That looks like a silent installer in HTML?
How does that make it open source?

Maybe it isn't open source, maybe its just free software......I personally do not need free software to be open source, so maybe its in the wrong forum, big deal.....I was just trying to bring it to the attention of interested parties in CNCZone.....not trying to give anyone a heart attack!!!

Does that make a big difference for you?

May I suggest tp simply do not use it if that goes against some personal principle of yours......

    Happy new year.

I was not getting upset, I just wanted to clarify the implication you made that it was open source, if you can provide a link that show it is, fine.
But in my book, freeware is not open source.
I take Open-Source to mean that the source code for the program is available.
As you can see I was not the only one that misinterpreted your post.
I have used the program for several years now and agree it is excellent.
    Have a good year.

    Happy new year.
No problem. I do sometimes get confused about the licensing/source of software. I think some of the software authors are even confused about it sometimes.
    Let's have a good year.

    Thanks,

I must admit that if I need a particular program and I do not want to (initially anyway) invest before knowing exactly what works best for me, it is unimportant as to whether its free-ware or open source.......

The Google search I did "suggested" that it was open source though most hits are in German, but all did use the words "Open Source" in English....look at the attachment.

I was not trying to mislead anyone....

    Happy new year.

Yes you can "view" the DXF file in Irfanview. You can "edit" the appearance of the image but you cannot turn the edited image back into a DXF file.

I found the same problem, sad.
If we all wrote (separately!) to the developers, maybe they would remedy this failure?
    What do you think?
