Is there a way to make objects or components in Rhino similar to Autocad or Sketchup?

I was wondering if there is a way to make an object in Rhino 3d , so that when I have multiple of the same objects in my model I can easily modify one and all the other objects will be modified simultaneously???

I am an architect myself, so If say I was designing a building, and I have 100 of the same columns in the design. During the design process I might decide I want to change the floor height or do an additional change to the column profile. In that case I would have to make changes to every single column. Is there a quick way to do that, so that I would only have to make one change and all the other columns would change in the same way.

If anyone is familar with Sketchup you could make an object into a component, and when u copy that component over different areas of the model, editing any one of the components will make changes to all the other one. This is simular with the "OBJECT" command in AUTOCAD.

    Anyone know an easy solution???

    Thanks!!

    alanyu,

Yes you can do the component edit in SU very easy and it will update all instances of any component duplicated. It has to one of the easiest programs I have ever used and it makes AC look like a relic with some of the functions and the ease of operation and learning.
Go to the SU forum boards and see what people are doing.

    Good Luck,

i've been using sketchup for about 5 years, yes skp has its advantages, but sometimes its also very inefficient. Especially doing different forms. Rhino saves u a lot of time when u want do modeling for organic shapes.

I found a plug-in for rhino 3d, what it does is that you can edit blocks easily during the modeling process. Its similar to autocad where you can edit your objects. If anyone needs it, just go to the rhino 3d wiki site, and search for block plugin, it should lead u to the plug-in download page.

    cheers
