    Exclamation Multicam 3000 Modbus 1/20

Hi all! This is my first post here, so forgive me if my format isnt correct.

I run a Multicam 3000 on a daily basis and it has had its fair share of issues.
Yesterday we had a sheet stop in the middle of cutting (a file that has cut 1000's of times seamlessly) and the controller paused and gave a "Modbus Slave Timeout 1" Error, and we were able to finish cutting the sheet by simply sending a shortened version of the file to complete what got missed, we have "fix files" that we set up to complete operations when power cuts etc.
This morning when trying to warm up the spindle, we immediately received a "Modbus Timeout- Slv: 20 Timed Out" only seconds after the spindle started spinning. We could cancel that error and try another warm up, but the same error is thrown immediately. This is where we are currently stuck. It seems like i have full control of the machine up until the spindle starts going, then it errors out instantly.

Thanks in advance for your help, I appreciate any ideas!

With the machine off....Check your Rio board connection ( Unplug and replug all of the connections on the Rio and that the Rio board is not covered in a nice warm blanket of dust....Electronics don t like to be warm and cozy.

you shouldn't have to send a partial file to complete when the machine errors. there is a built-in "proximity start" option by moving your bit above the last point you left off and hitting Shift+Start and Enter when promted to confirm "start here"

    Re: Multicam 3000 Modbus 1/20

    Hi all,

I’m experiencing persistent communication issues with my ATCB (slave 20) and would appreciate any insights or suggestions for further troubleshooting.

    Background:

    • Spindle 3-Phase Cable:
There was a short in the spindle’s 3-phase cable. After replacing it, the spindle functioned correctly.
    • Rotary ATC Proximity Sensor:
A short occurred in the proximity sensor for the rotary ATC. Once fixed, the rotary began working as expected.
    • Rotary Stepper Motor:
I discovered a loose connection (one pin had come out) on the stepper motor for the rotary, which I repaired.

After these repairs, I started noticing issues with modbus communication:

    • Initially, I received errors indicating that the inverter was not communicating properly, followed by a “slave 20 timeout.”
    • I replaced the entire data cable assembly—approximately 34 wires in total, including the two Modbus wires (MB+ and MB-)—thinking that might resolve the issue, but the error persisted.
    • I also tried suggestions from an MCPservice technician—unplugging and reconnecting various components. At one point, the HIG2 input lights (typically 5 out of 8 turn on during boot) behaved normally, but soon after, the handheld controller began pausing due to intermittent communication.
    • Currently, upon bootup, the input lights flash on briefly and then turn off immediately, and the handheld controller reports a communication error with slave 20.

I suspect that there might still be unresolved wiring issues related to the earlier shorts, but I’m unsure what other connections to check or what additional steps to take.

    My questions are:

What other wiring might be related to the modbus communication that might be causing this.

    Other things to note:

I tested both of the capacitors and I get 80v on the 100v (the giant capacitor) and I tested the main power output for the 80v input as 72-73v (not sure if this much of a drop is normal).

I am also getting closer to 24v as well (23.5-24.12) - the 24v PSU is set to 24.12.

Also the contactor typically turns on to send 80v (it seems to me?) after the boot-up when it says slave 20 not communicating, you have to hit enter in order to get passed the screen showing the timeout and then the contactor activates and turns on the 80v. Is this the normal order of things?
I assumed it could be because of maybe 80v not being supplied but its becoming less and less likely in my opinion.

    Thanks to whoever can help.
