    OD Toolpost Grinding

We just purchased a Themac tool post grinder (1/2 h.p., 4200-9000 rpm) that's going to be mounted on a 1995 Romi Bridgeport EZ Path Lathe. I'm looking for advice on spindle speeds, grinder speeds, d.o.c., feed rate, and wheel type. The material to be ground is 440c @ 59 Rockwell C. and its only a finishing operation, so no heavy material removal (.001-.005). Sorry, this is a bit much to ask, Ive been programing machining centers for 16 years, never touching a grinder or done any grinding whats so ever. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

    Wear safety glasses.
Don't stand in front of the wheel when first turning it on.
Know the rated speed of the wheel and don't exceed.

use down the hall in a separate room from the lathe with the door closed. ok, you dont like that one, Next best is cover everything with paper towels held down with pot magnets, use the heavy brown stuff used in commercial bathrooms (more likely to bounce sparks than catch fire). slight risk of combustion but better than rags which should never be used as they are a major safety hazard
