    Questions from Noob

I am new to this CNC building thing.. I read a lot of info, but do have some questions wanting to see if any experts could help answer.

I am planning to get a quattrostep-2, 4-axis usb controller board.. anyone used this before, any good and could I use software like Mach3 or just their provided software?

Also I have some motor from a massage chair, but they are only 2 wires, red and black.. is there anyway to convert and use this for CNC?

The CNC is mainly for wood, but sometimes aluminum?

That's a pretty obscure board - it's hard to tell what it does, what it's compatible with, and how powerful it is, since there's very little information about it available (besides a YouTube video) that I could find. Are you in touch with the people who make it? It looks like it only controls very small stepper motors, but you'd need to ask them about this (preferably before paying for it). For cutting wood and aluminum parts of any size, you'd probably want to use NEMA 23 motors, although for very small machines I've seen NEMA 17 motors used.

It's hard to say what kind of motors you've scrapped out of your chair, but if they only have 2 wires, they aren't steppers, which have a minimum of 4. If they are DC brush-type motors, you could conceivably fit them with encoders and run them as servos, but not with that controller.
