Servo recommendations for a DIY Mill

    Hi
I am trying get some recommendations on servo motor brands for the DIY CNC mill build that I am planning. This is heavily based on this machine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbqY8Mcbh0Q, but smaller. I was thinking of using 400W servos for all three axis.
This machine will be used to for pro-hobby type work and some basic professional work so want to keep the cost low/moderate. I am looking for some advice on selection of brands/suppliers for servos that I can rely on for this type of a machine.

    Hi,

I would personally recommend the JMC iHSV60 servos, those are very affordable. I have good experience with those. You can find these from Sorotec and Cnc-technics for example. The 2nd supplier have a 400w servo with brake as well, which is good for the Z-axis if you need it. I have these servos on my cnc lathe conversion. Also check out Scratchbuilt_designs on Instagram. He has a good video tutorial on tuning!

On my DIY router, I have 400w DMM servos. Those are also good, but much more expensive, considering all the needed parts such as filters, line reactor etc. One advatange is the auto tuning feature in their software.

I would buy the JMC ones if I build a new machine.

I contacted JMC and they sent me a quotation of 152USD/set for 400W JAND servo driver +motor +3meter cables. They will also send me the catalog.

I want to change this thread to get advice for other aspects such as ball screws, electronics, etc as well, but cant find any edit thread option. Does any one know how to do that?

Note that the servos I recommended from JMC are the ones with integrated driver and running on DC voltage.

You have two options: create a new thread; or send a PM to a Moderator (I am one) with your requested new Thread Title.

Either way, be prepared to add more specific details of the work you plan to do with your machine to get the best advice.

    Hi,
I would recommend Delta or DMM

Delta is a Taiwanese brand made in China.
DMM is a Canadian brand made in China.

Both are good quality, performance, support , documentation and most importantly free set-up and tuning software.

Programming a drive without software is to press buttons like a microwave....and there are hundreds of parameter, its just too tedious and error prone. If you've had no experience with servos
then get servos that have setup software.

    I use 750W Delta B2 series. They have a 160,000 count/rev encoder.
