As you will quickly see, I'm very new to machining and cnc operations. I am trying to do a certain cutting operation, and wondering the best route to go (be it extensive math (please, no), or some appropriate cam software).

Here's a simple picture...


The plan is to set it up in a rotary table at the proper angle, so at least that way I can keep the z-axis on the same plane on each pass.

What I need help with, is the best way to get the g-code to make all those cuts.

I thought about doing some self-abusive spreadsheet that will give me the coordinates by moving every couple thou.. But for one, I'm no math guru, and secondly, I'd rather learn how to use the proper cam software to help make life easier

BTW - I'm using a sherline mill, and have their basic my t'mill software for sending the gcode to the mill... I am downloading some evals of some cam software, but having a rough time finding the best one to get the best g-code.. I am using solidworks for my 3d modeling.

Save/export the file as an stl from Solidworks. Download and try the STLWorks from Imserve, they advertize on the site here. Use it to generate your G-Code. You can get it as an eval for free and see if that does the trick for you. There are other CAM programs out there - but I've found STLWork fairly easy to use - mind you ya gotta spend a few moments on the help files!
