afraid for my mill... too big of face mill???

    Hi,

So I needed a cheap face mill to bring 4" aluminum to size on my kmb-1. I bought a used 6" face mill. It came today and it weighs 15lbs! I am afraid that I could trash my mill with that thing. any thoughts? Any one else use a big face mill on the kmb-1?

COuld I get away with this if I am really careful?

    Thanks

    God bless...
    Mark

Problem is you may not have enough horsepower to drive it and will stall the spindle. You might be ok if you keep cuts at small depths. I would have just used a 2-1/2" face mill and made 2 passes.

Yeah that is sounding like a much better idea... I could see keeping under .050 and being able to drive it with the 5 hp spindle motor on the kmb1
