That is not a huge difference. Assuming you are not losing steps I would guess it is thermal expansion of the frame/gantry especially if this would be a larger aluminum machine.

i never thought of that. i lived with it for a while while cuting wood not noticable but when etching glass its really is especially when half of it never makes it on the glass (ha ha) any other possibilites?

Bit getting pushed into the collet maybe?

I would expect lost steps to work the other way: as it's more likely that steps get lost when lifting the weight of the router, it drifts lower as the job goes on.

Well, that was just a wild guess ande may be totally off but if you post a picture of your machine and more technical details I believe the swarm intelligence of this site will find an explanation for this phenomenon.

i thought about theat too so i ran it in the air and took measurement afterwards and it was the same thing. Going to switch out the stepper in the morning with a bigger one.

try turning down your acceleration and retrying to see what happens.
I'll get it finished sometime after I start it.....

If you run the job multiple times, does it keep going up? Can you just run some "pogo-stick" g-code (bouncing the Z-axis full-travel up and down) and duplicate the results?

I guess I'd try a little harder to determine a root cause before I started swapping parts out.
